Daily Devotion: Nimrod
Bible Reading: Genesis 10:1-14
Key Verse: Verse 8 - “And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth."
Key Words: And Cush begat Nimrod
The first king mentioned in the Scriptures is Nimrod. He was the son of Cush and founder of the Babylonian Kingdom, a kingdom which symbolizes evil and immorality. The name Nimrod means rebel which exemplifies his life.
Rebellion is defined as defiance against authority. As you study the Word of God, you never find where a rebellious person’s life ends in victory. For example, Absalom rebelled against God’s authority in David. King Saul rebelled against the anointing of David as the king of Israel. Uzziah rebelled against God in going inside the Holy Place. The rebel never wins.
Louis Blanc, French socialist and historian, said shortly before his execution, “When I was an infant, I rebelled against my nurse. When I was a child, I rebelled against my teachers. When I was a young man, I rebelled against my mother and father. When I reached a mature age, I rebelled against the state. When I die, if there is a heaven and a God, I’ll rebel against them!”
No doubt Louis Blanc was not victorious in his life, either – so you can say with complete assurance, the rebel never wins.
What to do:
✞ Obey the Godly authorities in your life.
