Bible Reading: Daniel 5:1-9
Key Verse: Verse 2 – “Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.”

According to Herbert Lockyer in his book, All the Kings and Queens of the Bible, “The darkest night recorded in God’s Word was when Belshazzar set apart all kinds of revealing licentious mirth, with his wives and concubines and thousands of his lords. To this was added profanity of the worst order, namely a vowed contempt of God. The use of God’s vessels was an insult of the highest order to the mighty God.”
As you read Daniel 5, it becomes very clear that Belshazzar cared more about pleasure than protecting his kingdom. His demise resulted from two things: ungodly pleasures, and disrespect for God. To use a modern-day saying, “Belshazzar was full of himself.”
A young lady went to visit her pastor one day and in the midst of the meeting confessed the following, “Pastor, I have to admit that I have become vain in my thinking. Why, just this morning I looked into the mirror and admired my beauty.” The elderly pastor paused for a moment, smiled and said, “Be at peace, my dear; to be mistaken is not a sin.”
Belshazzar thought too much of himself because he thought so little of God.
What to do:
