Daily Devotion: Antiochus Epiphanes (A Type of the Anti-Christ)

Bible Reading: Daniel 11:31-45

Key Verse: Verse 36 – “And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.”

Because of his association with the Greek empire, and because Daniel 8:9 “the little horn” historically represents Antiochus Epiphanes whose rage and cruelty toward Israel knew no end, and because the language used in Daniel 11:31-45, most scholars see Antiochus Epiphanes as a perfect type of the anti-Christ which is to come.

The anti-Christ will come to:

• Deify Satan (Revelation 13:4),
• Defy the Savior (Revelation 13:5-6),
• Destroy the saints (Revelation 13:7),
• Dominate society (Revelation 13:7), and
• Delude sinners (Revelation 13:8-10).

The spirit of anti-Christ already exists today (I John 4:3). How much longer before the “true” anti-Christ is revealed! Only God knows. The real question is: am I ready for the Lord’s return? If so, I need not be concerned about the coming anti-Christ because I am on the winning side!
