Have you ever considered all of the men and women of the Bible who had to go through the struggle of loneliness?
· Think of Adam
and God who said, “It is not good that the man should be alone.”
· Joseph who was
hated by his brothers and left alone in a pit.
· Naomi whose
family died and she felt alone and hopeless.
· Jonah who felt
alone in the belly of the whale.
· Elijah who
felt alone facing Ahab and Jezebel.
Which raises the question, “What
is the answer for loneliness?”
First, we must have a sense of the
presence of God (I Kings 19:11-13).
Next, we need to find a ministry
and be a blessing to others (II Cor. 1:4).
Last of all, we must realize there
are others who are willing to aid, help, pray for us and be there for us (Ruth
1:16).
But it also is our responsibility
to minister to the lonely.
“An eleven-year-old orphan had
known nothing but institutional life.
She had been shuffled from one orphanage to the next. She defied authority and maintained very poor
manners. Her friends were few because of
her social ineptitude. On one occasion
her roommates saw her write a note and hide it in a tree that overhung the
orphanage wall. Such a practice was
strictly forbidden, so the two girls ran to retrieve the letter once the poor
misfit had gone. Their thoughts of
blackmail were soon daunted when they read these simple words: ‘To whoever
finds this – I love you!’”
