Daily Devotion: Secular Humanism and Ethics
Bible Reading: Exodus 20:1-17
Key Verse: Verse 1– “And God spake all these words, saying,”
Key Words: And God spake
The Ten Commandments are also a code for ethical Godly living; and we, as Bible-believing Christians, have a Biblical code of ethics. But did you know that there are organizations such as The International Humanists and Ethics Association (and yes, they do have their own code of ethics) which state “Ethics is a search for viable individual, social, and political principles of conduct, judged by one’s ability to enhance human well-being and individual responsibility”?
But secular humanists leave God out of their moral code, and when you leave God out, you no longer have ethics, you have an epidemic called sin.
Lying, cheating, and stealing are becoming an "acceptable norm” among high-school and college students, says Ralph Wexler, speaking for the Joseph and Edna Josephson Institute of Ethics. In a recent survey, the Institute reported that 61 percent of the high-school and 32 percent of the college students polled admitted to having cheated on an exam during the past year; 33 percent of the high-school and 16 percent of college students said they'd stolen something in the last year; and 16 percent of the high-school and 32 percent of the college students said they'd lied on a resume or job application.
National and International Religion Report, quoted in Signs of the Times, June, 1993, p. 6
You can’t leave God out and have ethics. Without God the “inmates will run the institution.” What a shame!
What to do:
✞ Allow God to be the cornerstone for all you do.
