Daily Devotion: Leaving God Out

Bible Reading:  John 15:1-8

Key Verse: Verse 5 – “I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”

Key Words: for without me ye can do nothing

According to the Atlantic (a political monthly magazine) the top five issues facing our country is: 1) Education, 2) Parental Leave for the Parents of a Newborn Baby, 3) Climate Change, 4) Mental Health, and 5) Abortion.

Let’s take a moment and look at these five issues, not from a political view, but from God’s view.

First, education.  The greatest need in education is to put God back in our educational system.  Government has taken God out and put godlessness in teaching with such things as the homosexual lifestyle, humanism where man is the answer rather than God.  Remember when our school day began with a Bible reading and prayer?  Not anymore.

While most Americans say the greatest issue facing our country is education; most are not talking about putting God back in, but rather improving the academic standards which will never happen.  There is no improvement of anything without God being in it.  “For without me ye can do nothing.”

Second, parental leave for parents.  The real concern should not be about parental leave but a parent leaving home period.  Many children go home to an empty house and basically raise themselves.

Third, climate change.  According to meteorologists, the average temperature has risen only .008 degrees in the last 128 years.  Our problem isn’t global warming, our problem is we are in a “spiritual ice age” when fewer and fewer people care about God.

Fourth, mental health.  You can’t leave God out and expect all to be well mentally.  The maniac in Mark 5 had a mental issue and it was only made right based upon his relationship with God.  King Saul had a mental health issue because he consulted with familiar spirits (demons).  Enough said!

Fifth, abortion.  Psalm 127:3, “Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.”  See also Psalm 139:15-16.

I am reminded of what Solomon wrote as he was moved by the Holy Spirit, “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people,” Proverbs 14:34.

Certainly leaving God out of our education, our parenting, mental health issues, and abortion…why, even leaving God and His wisdom out of such issues as climate change…cannot be righteous.

What to do:
✞ With God nothing is impossible (Luke 1:37). Without God nothing is possible (John 15:5).
