The principle of Ecclesiastes 11:1 is that we are not to be takers but givers. 2 Corinthinas 9:2 says, “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” Offerings should be given with pure motives and an attitude of worship to God and service to the body of Christ.
The important thing is that we see giving as a privilege and not a burden. It should not be out of a sense of duty, but rather out of love for the Lord and a desire to see His kingdom advanced.
Some recent 2022 statistics may help you to see what most Americans think today regarding tithing to their local church.
Only 3-5% of Americans who give to their local church do so through regular tithing.
For Christian families making less than $20k per year, 8% of them give at least 10% in tithing. For families making a minimum of $75k or more, the figure drops to just 1%.
The average donation by adults who attend church is about $17 a week. That is $73.67 a month or $884 a year per giver.
People are more likely to practice tithing when they begin the practice in their teens or early twenties.
17% of American families have reduced the amount that they give to their local church in some way. 7% have dropped regular giving by 20% or more.
If every Christian tithed 10%, an extra $139 billion each year would become available for God’s work.
