Daily Devotion: Socialism

Bible Reading: Acts 4:32-37

Key Verse: Verse 34 – “Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,”

Key Words: Neither was there any among them that lacked

Someone has given a good description of socialism by using Facebook: “Facebook is a perfect picture of socialism: you get it free, you have no say in how it works, the guy who runs it is rich, you have no privacy, and if you say anything they don’t like, they shut you up.”

There are those who like to use our Bible reading for today to promote communism and socialism; but those verses are far from teaching these ungodly principles. The giving in our text was voluntary, not socialistically-forced giving. Not only that but it was in the church that this voluntary giving took place, not the government.

Capitalism, not socialism, is God’s plan for the survival of a country. Let me list some Biblical reasons to support a capitalistic society.

The accumulation of wealth is necessary for a nation to be financially strong (Genesis 1:28). Egypt survived because the people worked and prospered (read Genesis 41).

The Six Basic Contradictions of Socialism:

  1. Under socialism, everyone works, but there is nothing in the stores.

  2. There is nothing in the stores, but everyone has everything.

  3. Everyone has everything, but everyone is dissatisfied.

  4. Everyone is dissatisfied, but everyone is for the system.

  5. Everyone is for the system, but no one works.

  6. No one works, but there is no unemployment.

What to do:

✞ Remember the words of Adolph Hitler: “The greatest thing we have going for us is the people are failing to think.”
