Bible Reading: Psalm 51
Key Words: thou shalt make me to know wisdom
I love David, don’t you? David was the apple of God’s eye for a number of reasons. One of those reasons had to be his honesty. He frankly admits to the Lord, “I sinned with Bathsheba because, quite honestly, I’m just not very smart.” Reminds me of a story I read that goes as follows.
Given that Nancy Pelosi has no job, she decided to take a sightseeing vacation to Europe. While visiting Europe, Nancy is invited to tea with the Queen. She asks the Queen what her leadership philosophy is. The Queen says that it is to surround herself with intelligent people. She then asks how the Queen knows if they’re intelligent.
“I do so by asking them the right questions,” says the Queen. “Allow me to demonstrate.”
She phones Boris Johnson and says, “Mr. Prime Minister, please answer this question: Your mother has a child, and your father has a child, and this child is not your brother or sister. Who is it?”
Boris Johnson responds, “It’s me, ma’am.”
“Correct. Thank you and goodbye, sir,” says the Queen.
She hangs up and says, “Did you get that, Ms. Pelosi?” “Yes ma’am. Thanks a lot. I’ll definitely be using that!”
Upon returning home, she decides she’d better put some of her old friends to the test.
She calls Joe Biden and says, “Hi, Joe, I wonder if you can answer a question for me.” “Why, of course, Nancy. What’s on your mind?”
“Uhh, your mother has a child, and your father has a child, and this child is not your brother or sister. Who is it?”
Biden hems and haws and finally asks, “Can I think about it and get back to you?” Pelosi agrees and Biden hangs up.
Biden immediately calls members of his staff, and they puzzle over the question for several hours, but nobody can come up with an answer.
Finally, in desperation, Biden calls Mike Pompeo at the State Department and explains his problem, “Now look here, your mother has a child, and your father has a child, and this child is not your brother or sister. Who is it?”
Pompeo answers immediately, “It’s me, of course, you idiot.”
Much relieved, Biden rushes back to call Pelosi and exclaims. “I know the answer, Nancy! I know who it is! It’s Mike Pompeo!”
And Pelosi replies in disgust, “Wrong, it’s Boris Johnson.”
Do not some politicians remind you of David who cried, “Make me to know wisdom”? In other words, they’re just not very smart.
