Daily Devotion: A Life of a Wrong Decision

Bible Reading:  I Kings 12:1-19

Key Verse: Verse 15 – “Wherefore the king hearkened not unto the people; for the cause was from the LORD, that he might perform his saying, which the LORD spake by Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam the son of Neba”

Key Words: Wherefore the king hearkened not unto the people

After Solomon’s death, his oldest son, Rehoboam, became king.  During his father’s reign he implemented some harsh requirements of the people (See I Samuel 8).  The people of Israel requested that the harsh requirement be lessened, so Rehoboam took the matter before two groups of counselors.  The older group counseled him to lessen the requirements while the younger group recommended that he make the requirements even more harsh…which he did.  It proved to be the wrong decision as the people under Rehoboam’s leadership rebelled, causing a divided kingdom which we know as the Northern Kingdom and the Southern Kingdom.  This is why we need God’s wisdom in our decisions because every decision is potentially a divisive one.

Some years ago an overpass collapsed during the night in Greenville, Alabama.  A passerby, seeing the collapse, attempted to stop oncoming traffic heading for the overpass but to no avail.  The first car, thinking the Good Samaritan was drunk, went speeding by crashing over the overpass; and as a result, two people died.

The result of wrong decisions can be great.  That’s the reason we need to pray daily that God will give us special wisdom and insight so that we can make the decisions He desires rather than making the decisions we desire.

What to do:
✞ Ask God to help you make wise decisions, not wrong ones.
