Daily Devotion: Christ Reigns ON Earth

Bible Reading: Isaiah 11:1-10

Key Verse: Verse 6 - “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

Key Words: The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb

Isaiah, chapter 11, deals with the one thousand year reign of Christ on earth. We know it as the Millennial reign of Christ. The Millennial reign of Christ will be a time of peace because Satan will be bound (Revelation 20:2); sin will be purged; and the Savior will reign. The Millennial reign will be a time of complete peace.

In our Scripture reading for today, the Holy Spirit selects three wild beasts and declares that the day will come when they will be led about by a small child. Not only will this be so, but the wolf will also dwell with the lamb, the leopard with the kid (goat), the young lion and the fatling together. The cow and the bear will feed together and their young ones will sleep together. The nature of a lion will be changed so that he shall eat straw like the ox. Think of it, even a baby will be able to play with poisonous serpents and there will be no danger of harm to them. Isaiah 65:25 repeats the promise, “The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent’s meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.

When the nature of wild beasts is changed, it will certainly be as it was in the Garden of Eden. You will remember that everything was brought before Adam to see what he would call it. There is no indication that any animals were the enemies of man. There is an indication that their nature was changed when the curse was put upon the earth because of sin. Genesis 3:14, “And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life.”

The Scriptures tell us that the serpent was cursed above the cattle. We can only interpret that to mean that all cattle and beasts were cursed because of man’s sin, but the serpent was certainly cursed more. But not so during the Millennial reign of Christ. It will be a time of absolute peace - something the earth has not known since Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden.

What to do:
✞ While the earth has no absolute peace, you can be at peace with God by being born again (Romans 5:1); and you can have the peace of God through a righteous relationship with Him (Philippians 4:7).
✞ Be a peace-maker, not a trouble-maker.
