Daily Devotion: Asking for a Conflict

Bible Reading: Exodus 1:15-22

Key Verse: Verse 17 - "But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.

Key Words: and did not as the king of Egypt commanded

Those who are in charge need wisdom to realize that some “commands” which are given are nothing more than asking for a conflict. So it is with Pharoah. His command could never be obeyed by those who had a Godly conscience.

Those who are leaders need to realize that while they have a position of leadership, they are not God. They are simply an instrument of God to carry out his will, not their own.

Four questions every employer, supervisor, overseer, or leader should ask themselves before demanding things from others:
  • Is it spiritually appropriate (I Corinthians 6:12)?
  • Will it cause some to stumble (I Corinthians 8:9)?
  • Is it edifying to all (I Corinthians 10:23)?
  • Will it glorify God (I Corinthians 10:31)?
When the leader makes everything about himself, he or she is asking for a conflict.

What to do:
✞ Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
