Bible Reading: I Timothy 4
Key Words: Neglect not the gift that is in thee
The word neglect in our text means to be careless of, a failure to regard.
I wonder today how many believers are neglecting the gift that is in them, not using their talents for God’s glory.
I read the following from The Pilgrim’s Magazine. The article was entitled “The Silent Voice.” It is so applicable for today for so many believers.
“In our younger days we used to know a young lady who had one of the most glorious singing voices we have ever heard – a rich contralto with an amazing range, and such volume that it was necessary for her to hold her throat when practicing in a small room. She was a protégé’ of the great Caruso and had before her assured success as a concert star. But then one day, singing for a group of her friends, not one of whom had any appreciation of fine music, her voice broke during a difficult score. Her companions, among them a young man to whom she was devoted, laughed at her and teased her unmercifully. An extremely sensitive soul, she put her music away quietly and vowed to herself that she would never sing again.
“Strangely, within a few months this girl married that young man who derided her, and for thirty-five years her singing voice has been silent, unless she may sing for herself alone upon occasion.
“How many Christians are like that young lady! Possessed of talents which could be used to make Christ known but their voices are mute.”
Today, are your talents on hold? Is your voice mute? I pray not.
What to do:✞ Remember, so often the greatest abuse is neglect.
